INDIA DESIGN FORUM (IDF)
BENGALURU 2018
Let’s Talk Design!
Bengaluru ByDesign 2018 will be playing host to the largest design conference in the country - India Design Forum. Founded in 2012 by Rajshree Pathy and Aishwarya Pathy, IDF is an initiative to promote innovative design and create awareness on the power of design in India. A platform for industry experts, professionals and emerging talent to interact and debate with their counterparts from across the world, IDF is one of the most influential design forums in India.
In its inaugural year, IDF featured eminent speakers like Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Karim Rashid, industrial designer, Lidewij Edelkoort, world famous trend forecaster, Pradyumna Vyas, Director of NID (National Institute of Design), Anand Sharma, former Union Cabinet Minister and Tim Marshall, Dean of Parsons, The New School of Design.
In 2013, IDF attracted over 1,300 delegates from India and abroad. More than 50 speakers from an array of different design disciplines discussed the way design matters to everyday life, including Anouska Hempel, Renny Raymakers, Nipa Doshi, Subodh Gupta, Thomas Heatherwick, Asif Khan, Marije Vogalzang, Christian Louboutin and Rahul Mehrotra.
2016 featured eminent Indian speakers from leading businesses and the design fraternity. This was in collaboration with the honourable Prime Minister’s Make in India initiative, which brought together global design leaders, corporates and media heads to rethink contemporary design practices against the backdrop of manufacturing. The highlight of that year was Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s perspective on ‘Designing Life’.
India Design Forum also represented India at the inaugural London Design Biennale as part of the annual London Design Festival. Themed 'Utopia by Design', the biennale featured installations by architects, designers, scientists, writers, and artists from over 30 countries exploring their definitions of how - The World Reimagines the World. IDF Founder Rajshree Pathy worked in collaboration with scenographer Sumant Jayakrishnan to incorporate the work of design strategist Avinash Kumar and artist Hanif Kureshi, to poignantly portray the multiple utopias that India emulates.
