STOP & STAIR – Unchained Symphony: Birds
This site-specific installation featured paper birds in flight designed to transform the perception of space and create positive impressions of freedom. The abstract imagery of birds soaring towards light is an attempt to educate people on environmental and water conservation. You don’t need to cut trees for paper. It can be created from cotton and other agricultural by-products such as coffee husk, cotton and corn husk.
The handmade paper used in the installation is produced using cotton rag waste. Not only is it a great way to repurpose waste and turn it into usable handmade products but it also reduces the number of trees being cut down.
This installation was created in association with Bluecat Paper, who create 100% handmade, recycled paper. A sustainable success story, they implement the technique of recycling water in which a state-of-art water treatment plant allows water to be recycled and reused for production processes.
