Mobility design in cities
About the Workshop
Using data to design an integrated transportation system for Bengaluru’
- How is data being used to design transportation systems in Bengaluru?
- What is the potential of data analytics and processing in decision-making for transportation?
- What are the innovative ways in which data can be used to design an integrated transportation system for Bengaluru?
Transportation, especially public transportation, plays an important and pivotal role for urban development. Transit agencies, across Indian cities, run services for commuters using planned and systematic design. With the introduction of new developments across Indian cities, there is a need to constantly update routes to meet the changing commuter patterns and traffic flows in cities. Data-driven decision making and using data as a catalyst to innovate and improve services, becomes an important next step for transit authorities to constantly meet commuter needs. Big data and analytics is the need of the hour in the transportation realm to improve reliability as well as help operators to track the location of their buses/trains etc. In this session, WRI India will present their work on how data can be used across cities and modes to help design future networks and rationalize current routes. With a brief 5 minute presentation on data-driven efforts in Kochi with the metro to transition to route rationalization with Bengaluru’s own BMTC , the panel will discuss the need for data as the driving force for designing public transportation in Indian cities.
